Clogged drains are a common household problem, but they’re usually easy to fix with a few simple tools and techniques. Whether it’s in your kitchen sink, bathroom, or shower, here’s how you can tackle this issue.

1. Boiling Water Start by boiling a pot of water. Pour it slowly into the drain in two to three stages, giving it a few seconds between each pour. This can often help dissolve soap, grease, and other organic materials blocking the drain.

2. Baking Soda and Vinegar For more stubborn clogs, use a natural cleaning solution. Pour about half a cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by half a cup of vinegar. Cover the drain and let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes. The fizzing action helps break down debris. Afterward, flush with hot water.

3. Plunger If the clog persists, grab a plunger. Make sure there’s enough water in the sink to cover the plunger’s rubber cup. Plunge vigorously for 20–30 seconds. The suction can loosen most blockages.

4. Manual Removal For visible clogs, use a drain snake or a bent wire hanger to fish out the blockage. Insert the snake or wire into the drain, twist, and pull out any debris.

5. Call a Professional If these methods don’t work or you frequently face clogs, it might be time to call a plumber. Persistent clogs could signal deeper plumbing issues.

Regular maintenance, like pouring boiling water down your drains once a week, can help prevent future blockages and keep your pipes in top condition.
